Liberty Lane Needs You!
Women and children who turn to Liberty Lane for help leaving domestic abuse need you!
Liberty Lane is a place where women and their children can begin a new chapter of their lives away from the threat of domestic violence. It provides a place where women can access an affordable place to live while they begin the journey to independent living without the threat of abuse. In its efforts to improve and expand how it can deliver its services, Liberty Lane is building a new and larger residence to better meet the demand for women and their families affected by violence.

We need your help. Liberty Lane has an ambitious Capital Campaign goal of $900,000.00 for the construction of the new Kenny House. This new facility is named after Joan & Bob Kenny, two important supporters of Liberty Lane with a deep connection to the new facility. Before Bob’s passing from ALS, he and his wife, Joan, worked with Liberty Lane to develop a fiscally responsible and workable plan for the construction of Kenny House. Joan is continuing this work as the Patron of Liberty Lane’s fundraising committee. They both believed it was important to expand the services of Liberty Lane and this new facility will make this possible.

Each year, an average of 30 women (and their children) approach Liberty Lane for housing but 50% of those can’t be accommodated because the facility is full. Kenny House will have a greater capacity to deal with the demand and will also be wheelchair accessible and able to accommodate larger families.

Liberty Lane needs this move because women and children continue to need Liberty Lane. We want you to be part of this continued growth and success.

Take the challenge! Stand up for women and children affected by abuse. Help Liberty Lane in its Kenny House Capital Campaign. Give generously knowing the true impact of your gift.

Thank you,

The History... The Demand
Liberty Lane - since 1993
For 24 years Liberty Lane has been a refuge and source of comfort for women affected by abuse. It has helped thousands of women and their children develop the tools and resources necessary to break away from the cycle of abuse and violence.

Safe and affordable housing are key components in creating a reality where people can make a fresh start away from abuse but Liberty Lane does not just provide refuge; it’s a place of work and growth. The workers and administrators help the clients get the counseling and life skills they need to break the cycle of abuse. The women in Liberty Lane housing and those using Liberty Lane’s outreach programs are learning to set goals, develop new skills, and regain a sense of pride and self-confidence.

Focus on the Progress – be part of the progress
Domestic abuse is an uncomfortable subject. To be abused by someone so intimate to ourselves is hard to accept. It’s up to us as a community to continually commit to fighting against domestic abuse, to letting those affected know that it’s unacceptable and that it’s not their fault.

The Demand
Each year, an average of 30 women (and their children) approach Liberty Lane for housing but half of those can’t be accommodated because the facility is full. Kenny House will have a greater capacity to deal with the demand and will also be wheelchair accessible and able to accommodate larger families.
This move is going forward. Liberty Lane’s current facility has been sold; construction has begun on the new site. Liberty Lane needs this move because women and children continue to need Liberty Lane. We want you to be part of this continued growth and success.

The Demand is Real!
The Demand is REAL!

-
There is a real, unmet demand for safe affordable housing for women trying to leave an abusive relationship.
-
Each year an average of 30 women (and their children) approach Liberty Lane but 50% can’t be accommodated because Liberty Lane’s facility is full.
-
Women have also been declined admittance because Liberty Lane couldn’t accommodate their family size. Kenny House will have 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and Liberty Lane will have 3 new offsite units.
-
The overwhelming majority of Liberty Lane’s clients do not have the financial resources or support network necessary escape domestic abuse.
-
Liberty Lane accepts clients from across New Brunswick.
-
The $900,000.00 Capital Campaign target will ensure Liberty Lane does not have a mortgage and can focus on delivering services to women and children hoping to leave abusive and violent situations.

Liberty Lane offers:

-
Second Stage Housing - safe housing for women (and their children) leaving an abusive relationship. Liberty Lane has an apartment building with individual units for each woman. They pay affordable rent and utilities during a 12 month lease. Support services are provided at the apartment building as well. It is not an emergency shelter.
-
The Family Violence Prevention Outreach Program - support for women who are, or who have been, in an abusive relationship. Our outreach workers meet with women out in the community.
Domestic Violence in Canada
-
On average, every six days a Canadian woman is killed by her domestic partner.

People with disabilities are at greater risk of experiencing domestic violence. Liberty Lane’s Kenny House will be wheelchair accessible.[1]
-
About 760,000 or 4% of Canadians over the age of 15 years report they have experienced intimate partner violence in the previous five years. Among aboriginal women this percentage increases to 9%. 1
-
Just under 9 million, or about one in three Canadians, reported they have experienced abuse before the age of 15 years. 1
-
Over 170 homicides are committed every year by a family member. 1
